From Auckland to Alcatraz: Pacific Voyagers' epic journey encourages all to paddle together
The 100-plus crew members of the Pacific Voyagers expedition -- largely hailing from Samoa, Fiji, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Cook Islands, Vanuatu and Kiribati, as well as a handful from Hawai'i -- already have an open house scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow at Treasure Island, to "talk story" about the canoes and environmental issues such as ocean acidification. They may even include rides for families on the outrigger sailing canoes, according to Dieter Paulmann, who organized the expedition to highlight the role of traditional wisdom in saving the ocean. Vaka Fleet Arrival
With 10 knot plus winds howling through the Golden Gate the 6 Vaka representing 12 Island Nations arrive under the Golden Gate under slack tide and beautiful skies Tuesday at 3pm. At a mad cap pace they dash to their home base at Treasure Island for shower, food and an intimate warm welcome from the Pacific Island Communities of the Bay Area. Come see them Saturday for an Official Meet and Greet at Treasure Island from 10am to 4pm.

Voyagers Make Historic Journey Across the Pacific Ocean
In April, 2011 seven traditional Polynesian ocean-going canoes (vakas) set sail across the Pacific Ocean on a historic expedition. Of the original 7 Vaka that set sail from New Zealand, 6 Vaka will visit San Francisco. The the 6 Vaka coming to our home waters are:
Gaualofa - Samoa
Uto Ni Yolo - Fiji
Marumaru Atua - Cook Islands
Haunui - Pan Pacific
Te Matau a Maui - Aotearoa
Hine Moana - Pan Pacific
The 7 vaka are an inspiration to the spirit of the Polynesian people. Their voyage embarks on the back of Hokulea and their voyaging ancestors continuing to prove the voyaging skills of Polynesia.
The 2011 Sprint Season is Officially On
The 2011 Sprint season is official on! Crews from all over the NCOCA descended on Lake Del Valle in Livermore Saturday June 11th to compete. Though crews, coaches, officials, friends and family were greeted to 20+ knots blistering winds, snakes at the coaches meeting, and tarantulas a the club camps it was an enjoyable day of competition, food, and comraderie. Ho'okahi Pu'uwai Keiki Paddle Polynesian Festival
Foster City is the home of Ho'okahi Pu'uwai Outrigger Canoe Club (HPOCC). This past weekend on Saturday April 30, 2011, the champs were getting additional work out for the upcoming season by participating the Polynesian Festival at Leo Ryan Park. It was a festive and very warm day with vendors, dancers, musicians and paddlers enjoying the sun. The keiki of HPOCC were working hard providing outrigger rides to festival visitors which included a mock race at the end of the ride. Big mahalo to the gang an HPOCC for participating in the local event and sharing our outrigger traditions with the community.
Canoe Club Teaches Teamwork to Kids & Grown-ups Alike
