O'Kalani Celebrates 30th Anniversary at Sprint #3

June 27, 2010

Quarry Lakes, Fremont played host to the 3rd Sprint Regatta. It was a nice warm day that started with a nice pule by O'Kalani long timer Roger Stoffers and introductions by Junior Wright. After a Haka from the boyz of Monterey Bay Outrigger atop the hill, the races began on time and amazingly stayed on time throughout the day ending at 2:44pm. Many thanks to NCOCA officials for their efforts on and off the water.

Highlights gotta be the 2000 meter race. Since Sprint #1 we've seen dueling crews battling it out for 7 turns with each crew hanging within inches of the other. Its mano-y-mano racing at this best...stamina and determination for show on those on shore. No one could be shook until the final sprint to the finish line. It was awesome watching respective men and women 2000 crews turning together for 7 grueling turns. The HPOCC women showed their prowess with an awesome tempo increase for the home run.

In the end HPOCC men and women crews edged out their respective opponent by inches and seconds for a double whammy victory. The victory certainly contributed to Ho'okahi Pu'uwai taking the AA trophy home for a consecutive 2nd time. The A trophy again goes to SFOCC for a third consecutive time. Check out www.ncoca.com for posted results. Enjoy the July 4th weekend, train hard, and see ya for Sprint #4 again at Quarry Lakes on July 10th.
