"And the winner is..."July 25, 2010As expected, the folks in yellow again won A Division Sprint #5. But it came down to the wire with the Sprint Giants Ho'okahi Pu'uwai and Lokahi, who were fighting for those final points to determine who takes home the season and perpetual trophy. And in true competitive spirit the crews from the giants not only battled each other, but against the other clubs looking to spoil the fun. In the end, when the final points of the day were tallied Lokahi won Sprint #5. But wait who won the season overall...cumulative points over 5 regattas? Its a tie for the NCOCA perpetual Trophy...but wait we have a tie breaker! Before we go into who won the season, there were some races in the day that bear mention. Kamali'i 19 & under took their 3rd straight win in Coed 500m. While the 16 & under girls from Ho'okahi Pu'uwai settled the score with their on-going 1st place trading with Kilohana missing in action...due to vacation schedules. Kiloahana 16 & under boys500m remain undefeated with 4 straight victories. Kamali'i 19 & under girls compete their domination in 1000 meter 3 turn sprint with +27 seconds ahead of the pack. Same goes for Lokahi boys in the same event. It was another good day with day's events ending around 3:30pm in time for some celebrations. Next Saturday July 31st Kaimanu is hosting the Championship Regatta where final redemption can be fulfilled for Nor Cal State Champs. With the season points pau, the Championship Regatta stands alone with only the points earned that day will determine who is crew and club Champ 2010. Should be a fun filled event to end the sprint regatta season, with regatta planners planning fun events on the water, and clubs breaking out horns, blue wigs, water guns, etc., to earn bragging rights on who has the most spirit and who can cheer their crews to final victory. Break out the food, music, fun, cheer and spirit and enjoy a great end to the 2010 Regatta Season. Oh! Who is the winner of the Perpetual Trophy in 2010? Come to State Championships to find out.
