Competitive and Fun Filled NCOCA Championship Regatta 2010 Pau!July 31, 2010The NCOCA Sprint Season ended Saturday with a lot of spirit and some final grudge matches settled. But before we announce the winners, I just wanted to give a big hand to all the Club Heads within the NCOCA for doing a great job with your crews and getting to sprints ready to do battle with spirit and camaraderie among the other clubs. We've really kicked it up a notch since Sprint #1 as the Championship noticeably had more crews entered to make it a wonderful fun filled day. Big kudos to the NCOCA Race Committee - Brad, Linda, Debbie, Mike and their support crews for their hard work on and off the water to make all sprints run smoothly and on-time. There were 2 goals this year and that was to stay on time and bring back the fun factor. They succeeded on both fronts with races finishing on average at 3:15pm and introducing demo events that may be offered in the 2011 Sprint Season. Lastly to the Executive BOD who were a great team to work with planning the 2011 season and working hard to make it a success. It just doesn't happen without great effort. Now onward to the bling blin...the NCOCA Champions for the day were Lokahi, Ho'okahi Pu'uwai, Hui Wa'a and Kamali'i O' Ke Kai earning 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place honors for AA Division, while San Francisco OCC, O' Kalani, Hui O' Sacramento, and Kaimanu earned 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place honors for A Division. Season overall winners were Lokahi (1st), Ho'okahi Pu'uwai (2nd) and Kamali'i (3rd) for AAl...with Lokahi and Ho'okahi Pu'uwai actually tied for 1st place after 5 regattas with 281 points for both clubs. Lokahi broke the tie as the club had the most 1st place finishes throughout the regular season thus Lokahi brings home the Perpetual Trophy for 2010 Season. The V1 Champ trophies go to Hui O' Sacramento, Ho'okahi Pu'uwai and O' Kalani with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place honors respectively. Congrats to all! I hope all enjoyed the 2010 NCOCA Sprint Regatta Season it was great watching the crews grow with each successive race. Let's continue to perpetuate the our sport and prepare for next year with more crews and faster paddlers. Now its onward to the post long distance season.
