Vaka Fleet ArrivalJuly 29, 2011Aloha NCOCA, As we prepare for the end of a wonderful 2011 Sprint Season, we begin a historic event. It is with great news that we announce the ETA for the Vaka Fleet under the Golden Gate as this Saturday July 30th at approximately 5pm on the incoming tide. The recent 3+ days of 20 knot winds made up for the doldrums 5 days ago. The Vaka Fleet had been making an impressive 200 miles per day. The crew is cold and anxious to be amongst their community. We look forward to their visit, while according them the rest they deserve. Though our NCOCA Fleet will be in Sacramento on the day of arrival, we will be unable to greet the fleet this Saturday, but will be able to do so on Sunday August 7th at 12pm. This allows us to accord them a welcome and ceremony along with the host Native American Indians leading the ceremony followed by the PI Community leaders. In addition, the Vaka Crew will be visiting us in the morning at Crissy Field as we prepare to race the Round the Rock Challenge. We've extend the crew to come race with us and their crewmates. There will be more news as we continue to prepare for the next couple of weeks. The PR machines are working hard and you will be hearing much more in the local media. Stay tuned for more. Please visit www.pacificvoyagers.org to learn more, share with your keiki and members, and prepare to meet the crew on August 6th & 7th at Treasure Island. Pau fo' now, Bernie Bernal NCOCA President |
